Avondale Elementary School Recognized as a Literacy Leader

Congratulations to our Roadrunner family on being recognized by Georgia’s State School Superintendent Richard Woods as a Literacy Leader in a ceremony hosted at the Avondale Elementary School (AES) on September 15, 2023.

Along with nine other DeKalb County School District schools, AES was awarded for being a top school in the state based on the 2022-23 third-grade ELA Georgia Milestones scores. Literacy Leaders are schools that achieved 90%+ proficiency and above, or, like AES, schools that celebrated extremely high growth on the 2023 Georgia Milestones. During the 2022-23 school year, AES 3rd-grade students who scored proficient or above grew by over 26 points.

Thank you to Georgia Department of Education Board members Kenneth Mason and Lisa Kinnemore and DeKalb Board of Education member Whitney McGinniss, DeKalb School Board, District 2 for celebrating with AES today, along with Georgia House of Representatives Vote Omari Crawford and Long Tran State Rep HD 80.
