Avondale thrives on the involvement of families and community partners. Here are some helpful assets to reinforce our students’ academic and interpersonal experiences.

Parent & Student Handbook
The Avondale Elementary Staff and Administration are dedicated to creating the best learning environment possible. It is our goal to provide all students with the opportunity to excel academically, enabling them to become positive contributing members of our school and community. The Parent & Student Handbook contains important resources about our school, programs, and policies. We expect your child to have a great year of learning at Avondale Elementary, an IB PYP School.
School Hours
Morning Drop Off:
The school opens at 7:00 AM and car riders may drop off anytime between 7:00 and 7:35 AM at the roundabout behind the school (entering and exiting from Stratford Road). Upon arrival, students are able to retrieve breakfast. Students will be dismissed to class at 7:25 AM. Students are considered tardy at 7:45 AM.
Dismissal:
Students may not be checked out after 1:45 PM. Students are dismissed at 2:20 PM. Car riders must be picked up by the gym between 2:20 PM and 2:45 PM.
School Attendance
Attendance is a huge priority for Dekalb County School District (DCSD). The protocol below is being implemented in every school district wide. Children miss out on important instructional content when they are not present, so it is imperative that your child be present every day. In addition to reinforcing the attendance protocol listed below, this year we will be offering incentives for attendance at Avondale Elementary.
After School Care
AES offers an After School Extended Day Program from 2:30 until 6:00 PM every regular school day. Weekly tuition begins at $60 for one child; a fee of $15 per day will be applied to students that are on a “drop-in” basis. A one-time $25 registration fee is required; for two or more children, it is a one-time $20 registration fee per child.
The program is operated by AES teachers and staff members. Students have the opportunity to participate in outdoor or gym free-play, computer lab, art, mandatory homework, and more.
Bus Routes

DeKalb County School District provides the Edulog Parent Portal smartphone app to help you receive information about your child’s school bus ride. It allows you to:
- access designated bus stop times and locations
- see real-time information about the location of your child’s school bus
- receive notifications when the bus is getting close
Edulog Parent Portal lets parents see the time and location planned for school bus arrival at their child’s bus stop.
Nutrition
Avondale Elementary is a 100% free breakfast/lunch school, regardless of your family’s ability to pay. You do NOT need to load any money into your SchoolCafe account. However, AES receives extra support from the district based on family income data. If you haven’t already, please fill out a school lunch application. This form also allows you to indicate any food restrictions/allergies that the cafeteria or your child’s teachers need to be aware of.
Avondale Elementary is a 100% NUT FREE school. Please do not send any nut products to school with your children.
