We are thrilled to announce that this year's event was nothing short of a spectacular success. The AES BREIT RUN raised over $17,000! These funds were a result of the remarkable support and dedication of an incredible community. See all the upcoming events and sign ups here!

In this month's newsletter we're celebrating the science of reading, Avondale's recent Literacy Leader award, and the teacher and educational support professionals of the year who make all of our students' success possible. Don't forget to sign up to run or volunteer at our 5k, happening Saturday, October 14!

Congratulations to our Roadrunner family on being recognized by Georgia's State School Superintendent Richard Woods as a Literacy Leader in a ceremony hosted at the Avondale Elementary School (AES) on September 15, 2023. Along with nine other DeKalb County School District schools, AES was awarded for being a top school in the state based on the 2022-23 third-grade ELA Georgia Milestones scores.

Join us as we lace up our running and walking shoes to come together to honor the memory of Coach Beth Breit, one of the visionaries & creators behind the AES 5K Race and 1 Mile Fun Run. Registration before 9/21 includes T-Shirt!

The first month of school has been a resounding success! Our dedicated students have settled into their routines, engaged enthusiastically with their learning, and formed meaningful connections with their teachers and peers. Drop your student off and join Dr. Andrews, members of your AES Principal Advisory Council, and other parents and caregivers for a casual coffee conversation!

Join us for a night of fun and fellowship with your fellow Avondale Elementary parents/caregivers on Friday, September 8, 6:00-9:00 PM at Comet Pub & Lanes. This is an ADULT ONLY event. Please arrange for your own childcare. We have coordinated with DeKalb Parks & Recreation to offer a 'parents night out' service at Hamilton Rec Center. Limited space is available.

Principal Advisory Council (PAC) nominations are being accepted now through August 25th for all DCSD schools. AES parents/guardians, we need you! Our PAC has 2 slots opening up this year. PAC brings parents, school staff, students, and community members together to share ideas for promoting student achievement and wellbeing.
